The braking system constitutes a vehicle’s main active safety equipment. Its purpose is to stop the vehicle in a controlled and effective way when it is moving or to hold it when stopped. The increase in weight and power of modern vehicles together with the increase in safety standards has led to the development of these systems. Advancing from a purely mechanical working principle, to now operating systems that integrate mechanics, hydraulics and electronics working together to increase performance and safety.

The main objectives of this course are:

• Introducing the physical factors that take part directly or indirectly with the braking of the vehicle.
• Explaining the different braking systems found in cars and the way they operate.
• Carrying out a physical and operational study of the elements integrated in the braking systems..
• Introducing the diagnostic procedures, repairs and maintenance of the above elements.
